It seems as though Soulja Boy has gone the way of Jem Godfrey. Admittedly, an obscure reference, but also an excuse to push two completely different genres in one blog post. Soulja Boy’s latest track “2Milli” is a silky smooth, raw, freestyled track featuring the production wizardry of up-and-coming producer Clams Casino. Quite a departure from Soulja Boy’s famed Fruity Looped dance tracks, “2Milli” is an announcement of Soulja Boy’s appreciation for his fans, as well as a claim to the throne of “Best Rapper” (he uses the phrase at least once in the middle of the song, and once as a non sequitur at the way end– I wonder if this will start a trend.$)
Jem Godfrey, on a completely separate note, is a successful British pop producer, responsible for number one hits by Atomic Kitten and X Factor’s Shayne Ward. Eventually, he went wayward, flipped the kill switch (like Soulja Boy), and started producing progressive rock music– his true love from the beginning.
I thought I’d mention for the sake of my metalhead friends that I think “Frost*” is one of the most underrated prog bands today. Enjoy the Soulja Boy track. Best blog post$.
